Obesity is caused by consuming more calories than your body burns through exercise and daily activities. When this happens, your body stores the extra energy as fat. The quality of the food you eat is just as important as the quantity.

People who don't get enough sleep are more likely to become obese than those who get >7 hours a night. Sleep deprivation changes your hormones including lowering your leptin levels which can make your feel hungry. Your ghrelin levels which increase hunger by 25%. Brain imaging suggests it increases the neurologic response to unhealthy foods, it increases your opportunities, to eat, it leads to fatigue and sedentary lifestyle.
